All that equipment, all those gasses, what about surface support, how do I find a reliable technical dive center, and how much will it all cost?
That final question is one frequently pondered by those new to Technical Diving regardless of their location. (The others are most certainly concerns as well, but let’s focus for now)
So, let’s dive right in (pun intended, deco gasses at extra(or not) charge). Let’s say you’ve finished your tech course, bought a twinset wing and back-gas regs plus the general tech set-up you need to dive, how much is a guided technical dive going to cost you?
You’d be very very surprised at how difficult that information is to find, so, I’m taking it from the very simple view point above and I’m going to tell you.
2 x days technical diving:
Day 1 – Check-dive + minimal deco dive (36m)
Day 2 – Full deco dive to 42m
In total, this has cost me EUR303
That includes per day, 2 x stages, gas, stage regulators (EUR29 for the 50% used for deco and EUR 5 for the bottom stage plus EUR5 per stage reg rented.
Plus a EUR 65 per dive fee (you’ll note 2 days, 3 dives done)
Plus a EUR 20 site fee to access a specific site that I won’t name at this time.
I’m diving in the South of Europe at a well known destination with an exceptional dive center. Without disclosing exactly where I am or who I dived with, here is how much it really costs for a 2 day technical diving weekend! I’ll also note that I’ve been diving with this dive center for more than 5 years as a technical diver.
Sure, it’s slightly more expensive than recreational, but I was 1:1 with a tech instructor (for which I was not charged a surcharge), we also went places, penetrated wrecks, and stayed far longer than would ever have been conceivable with a single tank within the NDLs.
Worth every cent!
